When i saw this painting in the UpperRoom (where it staged Bolshoi Ballet performance last Saturday), I instantly thought of Chanel tweed jackets, complete with black ribbons. to my surprise, the painting was done in 1887. Perhaps Ms Chanel (and her successors) drew inspirations from paintings from that era and made its "hybrids" more fashionable.
